There has always been a strong culture in the school of facilitating, encouraging, and celebrating those who participate in extracurricular activities. These opportunities play a vital role in personal development, fostering teamwork, confidence, and a sense of belonging among students.
In recent years, pupils have proudly represented Scoil Mhuire in a wide range of sports, including hurling, camogie, football, soccer, rugby, basketball, badminton, golf, athletics, swimming, tennis, orienteering, and equestrian events.
Beyond sports, students engage in a variety of non-sporting activities that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. These include quiz teams, debating, the school musical, choir, traditional music groups, public speaking, chess, and many more.
Such activities provide students with valuable life skills, helping them develop leadership, resilience, and teamwork. They also foster a sense of school spirit and pride, allowing students to explore their interests and talents in a supportive environment. Scoil Mhuire remains committed to offering a diverse and enriching extracurricular programme, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Non-competitive in-school activities also play a very important role in adolescent exercise in Scoil Mhuire. School activities such as class and year trips, orienteering, outdoor pursuits, lunchtime activities, Sports Days are hugely important in encouraging student participation without concentrating on winning.
